Portfolios within the Firm
Seng Giap is TIC’s primary Partner in charge of the firm’s banking litigation portfolio, having expanded our banking practice since 2010 and now serves various banks and financial institutions, handling and advising on matters relating to credit cards, consumer loans, business loans, hire purchases and share/securities trading accounts
In addition to general litigation and banking matters, more recently, from late 2014 onwards, Seng Giap has also expanded our firm’s corporate practice department, being appointed to the panel of solicitors for a well-known local entity (listed on the Singapore Exchange) in the Food & Beverage industry along with its various subsidiaries, whilst also advising and directly handling the client’s litigious matters.
Seng Giap received his legal education at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2007, during which he first joined Tito Isaac & Co LLP as an intern during the summer holidays of 2005 and 2006.
Even during his internship stints with the Firm, Seng Giap was already exposed to an array of civil and criminal matters, assisting the partners and other associates in numerous debt recovery actions and criminal mentions, including assisting in the preparation of a petition for clemency to the President of Singapore.
Upon returning to Singapore, Seng Giap obtained a Graduate Diploma in Singapore Law from the National University of Singapore and, upon completion of his pupillage at TIC, was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in May 2009.
Since being called to the Bar, Seng Giap has represented clients in several trials as well as contentious applications before a Judge and/or Registrar of the Supreme Court and State Courts, as well as before the Court of Appeal.
Aside from civil trials, Seng Giap’s appearances before the Courts including arguing applications in relation to seeking summary judgment, discovery of documents, setting aside of default judgments, seeking peremptory orders (and defending applications for the same), post-judgment enforcement proceedings such as Garnishee orders and Examination of Judgment Debtors, as well as Bankruptcy proceedings.
Seng Giap has also been involved in Companies’ Winding-up applications, having successfully obtained several winding-up order against defaulting judgment debtors on behalf of local clients.
In addition to the above, Seng Giap had previously assisted Tito in securing urgent injunctive relief in respect of assets worth some S$1 billion, on behalf of a foreign client.
In early 2010, Seng Giap was involved in a criminal trial at the Subordinate Courts as lead defence counsel.
In late November 2011, Seng Giap appeared as Counsel alongside Tito before the Court of Appeal on behalf of a long-standing client of the firm, on a question of law involving the continued viability or otherwise of a common law claim (against our client) for personal injuries when our client had undergone and completed a Scheme of Arrangement pursuant to Section 210 of the Companies Act. The Appeals in question were lodged by our client, after the said question of law was not answered in our client’s favour by the High Court and the Appeals were ultimately allowed by the Court of Appeal.
Seng Giap has also racked up experience in the field of construction and renovation claims and pursued a trial on one such matter in July 2012 as lead counsel in the State Courts.
